Trip to the Park

We took a fishing trip down to the local park the other day, and even though we didn't have any luck catching anything, it was a nice day to play.

A Fine Spring Day

Opus, Quinn and Me... not such a great picture of me... Quinn on the log over the creek
Quinn fishing and standing by the totem
A couple of Quinn's best buddies... Spencer and Griffin (they are all in the same class and wanted me to take this picture so they could take it in for show and tell)
Quinn and I ushered in spring yesterday with a trip to Mom and Me Cubscout camp. It was a Spring Fling weekend at a boyscout camp in Metamora called D Bar A, and although we didn't get to spend the night with the rest of the pack, we got up at the crack of dawn and stayed until campfire, so I think we got in most of the fun. He gets to stay the night when he goes with Dad this summer which he is looking forward to even more.
We started off the day bright and early and got our gear packed to head "up north" we had fun chatting it up on the way there. First thing on the agenda for the morning was a horseback ride, and our horse Opus was a champ (Quinn's buddy's horse Hank was not as cooperative...think, stop whenever I feel like it, and don't start back up so easy) we were thankful for Opus. Quinn got right on and we walked up the trail and back through the longhorn pastures. Quinn was feeling pretty comfortable about halfway through and thought we should go faster, but that is a lesson for another day.
After the horseback riding we headed to the main lawn and played some games, had an egg hunt, and then it was back to the cabin for lunch. My first experience with Cub Scout camping, and it was pretty fun. The boys all bring their "mess kits" and are responsible for washing and hanging them to dry when their done etc. etc.
After lunch the boys decided they wanted to go fishing (really this is what Quinn was looking forward to the most about the whole trip), we fished, and fished and fished... Quinn caught a teeny tiny little fish as did one of his buddies. He had a few more on the line, but when he got them about a foot out of the water, back down they went. They really had fun though, and I think we were out there for a total of about 3 hours or so, which I think is amazing for 6 year olds.
They had worked up quite a hunger after all of that fishing so we hiked back to the cabin, had some dinner and play time (log and rock jumping at the creek, frisbee, soccer, marbles etc. etc.) before sitting by the fire for some conversation. Then it was time for heading home and more chatting in the truck about the fun we had.
It was the perfect spring day to be outside, and I am so glad we got to enjoy it.

Happy Easter

He is Risen Indeed. Another Easter and lots of fun. Saturday we headed out for the Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt in town, where the kids went from store to store on a scavenger hunt collecting eggs and when they were finished they got to enter their names in a drawing for a big basket full of goodies. While we were all over town we saw a deal on haircuts at one of the local shops, so the girls went back and got new do's... not bad for $7 each. They like them and I like not having to battle with the brushing quite so much.

Sunday was a beautiful day, and we got up not for the early early service but early for us, the 9am church. It was comfortably crowded, the kids had childrens church and Scott did really well in his "solo" in the choir. Dad gave a great sermon and it was nice not to have to rush right off to the next place after church. If only I were a morning person... maybe things would run smoother... anyway....

After Scott got done singing in the late service we headed to Em and Bobs for a yummy lunch with the family, and an egg hunt for the kids. Quinn has not been in the mood to have his picture taken lately, and when I went to look at these pictures I thought it was funny that he had turned around with the basket to his butt... I guess he was trying to lay some eggs to get a head start on the hunt. The black eye in the pictures we do have of him are due to a run in with the merry-go- round in town... no wonder they took most of those things off of playgrounds. He fell and hit his head on one of the metal bars, and it was just like you see on the cartoons, the lump went out an inch off of his head within 30 seconds. Needless to say it was no more park time after that, and concussion watch for the rest of the night. He is ok though, just a nasty black eye as a souvenier.
After the hunt and basket opening from Grammy and Grampy it was time to head up north for Easter with the McClellands. It was once again a yummy meal and fun egg hunt... Aunt Colleen did a great job making sure the eggs were hidden in just the right spots.

It's back to school this week and back to the routine. I have taken a new job, and he is such a cutie! We are watching Travis (our youth director at church's son) 3 days a week, he is 18months old, and a real fun guy.
That's about it... if you made it to the end of this extremely long post... thanks. I need to post more often so I don't have to write so much.

Spring Break

Well it's Spring Break in these parts, and we have been busy doing not much of anything at all. It has been kind of nice to have more than two hours at a time to get some things done, and I have taken advantage of it.
Monday we kind of loafed after taking kids to the eye doctor and checkups. Monday night though we headed out to Livonia for the Red Wings Alumni vs. Livonia Police Dept. hockey game where Annettes husband was supposed to drop the puck. He didn't but we still had a good time, and the kids got their excercise running around the rink. We had Ella with us for the night and she and Quinn stayed up until at least 11:30 gibberjabbering away. But hey it's Spring Break so no harm done really.
Tuesday the work began, Avery and I started working on clearing out closets so that we could make room for all the kids' clothes. Previously we had stored them all in the laundry room, but now that they are old enough to handle picking out their own clothes, it was out with the toys and in with the clothes. We sorted, and sorted and sorted some more, moved all the toys in bins with labels down to the basement in an organized fashion, then moved all the clothes into their rooms. Avery was a huge helper... Quinn and Kaleigh had fun washing cars, and finding toys they hadn't seen in awhile. This picture is them after the carwash... thus the no shirt look... When Quinn got involved in sorting his clothes he was hilarious. He was very specific on where he wanted things and made sure to sort everything, long sleeves, short sleeves, pants, etc. etc. He even said, and I quote, " I would PREFER to have this here and that there, it will make it easier for me." So funny.
Yesterday Scott and I tackled the kitchen closet which is basically my closet for all things crafty, school related, or whatever I can't find a place for. But now things are all with their own kind, and easy to access... it's good!
Today was a little of this and that, a battle with Quinn to let me get at his tooth which was hanging from a thread, he finally gave in and it was out in less than half a second... two hours of work for 1.5 seconds... yikes. I finally made it to gather a few things for Easter, and to the library after church. I just finished a great book by David McCullough called Mornings on Horseback: The Story of an Extraordinary Family, a Vanished Way of Life and the Unique Child Who Became Theodore Roosevelt it was a great book, and he is a great author, I have previously read his biography on John Adams which was really good too. So I went to the library and now have to decide which of his books to read next...
That's about it, tomorrow is Friday but Sunday is coming!
