String Cheese

If ever there were something for the kids to give up for Lent I think it would be string cheese. We buy a pack and they eat a pack. Quick as that. Kaleigh has been known to eat 7 strings in a day (no we do not condone this... she tends to find opportunity to get into the fridge when no one is noticing). I guess it could be worse, it is a fairly healthy after school snack, but I think we'll have to hide the 24 pack we bought today, we need it to last at least until tomorrow! :)

Avery's New Dress

Avery's new dress... I had fabric from at least a year and a half ago, and since I had the sewing machine out to sew on Quinns Cub Scout patches, I figured I'd take the time to make a new outfit for Avery. It took me all day yesterday to complete, but it turned out cute I think. She looks a bit like a pirate in the last picture, she has to wear a patch on her eye 2 hours a day to get her other eye to get some excercise so that it gets to 20/20 vs. 20/25.

3 years and Counting

I have now officially been blogging for 3 years (plus a few days) it seems crazy to me! I took a little trip down memory lane and looked at some old posts, and it doesn't seem like much time has gone by but the kids sure have changed.

We celebrated Valentines last week and the kids had fun making their cards for friends and family, here is a picture of just a few of them. They had a great time doing it, and it kept them busy for the better part of 2 hours, just for the ones you see.

Snowball Warming

Our kids wait until it is 40 degrees or so, before having their first snowball fight of the winter. Works for me. They had fun, after the attempt at flying their kites, but got thoroughly soaked... good excuse to wash the snowpants I guess.

Pinewood Derby

Today was Pinewood Derby day for Quinns Cub Scout Pack. Scott and Quinn have been hard at work for weeks now working on their cars, and all their hard work paid off today with an extremely fun morning of racing. Quinn and his best buddy Spencer tied for first place in their heats, so they had to have a race off, and Spencer took 1st with Quinn taking 2nd in their den of other first graders. They couldn't have been happier. Truly, it was great. Quinn was so excited to get a trophy, and even happier that his best buddy got one too. They didn't care who got first or who got second. Then, they had the pack championships (which is all the boys in their pack from first grade up to 4th or so), and believe it or not, the Tiger Cubs (first graders) took 1st, 2nd and 3rd, with yet another race off, Spencer and Quinn once again taking 1st and 2nd place, and you can imagine they were really happy now... two trophies! The Dads had a great time too, and Scott was really happy to have come in second to our good friend John (as Scott had given him some of his tips earlier in the week), which meant he won, but would not have to move on to the District Championships. Best of both worlds. They really had a blast, and I'm not really sure who was more excited, the 40 something year olds, or the 6 year olds. I think it is safe to say it was both.

Read Read Read a Book...

Quinn is back in the swing of his reading routine. After Christmas, it took us awhile to get back to reading 20 minutes or so each day (the goal from his teachers). But this week he is doing great, and the sisters have even benefited from some story time thanks to big brother Quinn, he likes to show off his skills, and the girls always like getting in an extra story or two. Tonight they camped themselves out in their "reading nook" the corner behind the chair stuffed with blankets, pillows and stuffed animals.

Prep Work

We spent the better part of the evening preparing for Valentines Day 2009. There will be approximately 60+ or so valentines leaving this house and going to various classrooms around town, so we thought we better get a head start. Tonight was the girls' night, and we had fun signing, sealing, and stickering a bagfull of puppy and kitten valentines for all of the "best friends" as Avery put it. It is a good thing that she considers all of her friends (and everyone in her class for that matter) her "best friends".
The boys spent their evening downstairs working on the Pinewood Derby cars for this weekends upcoming race. I would say they were working on Quinn's car, but since Scott has one too, and Scott has been the "manufacturer" of Quinns design for the most part, I will just say they are working hard. It is a good thing that Scott has been off of work for this, because I would certainly not be doing the Quality job that is apparently expected from a Quality Control guy.
Other than that, we spent the day at church, then running a few errands, Quinn getting his hair cut, and some yummy dinner (I actually made red meat tonight... doesn't happen often). Quinn got quite a bit of hair chopped, and I asked him what happened to his ears when he got done, to which he replied without a second thought, "my ears aren't bigger, my hair got smaller". Can't fool him I guess.
