Number Twooth

Quinn impressed us all this evening by having his other front tooth pulled without any screaming or clamming up on his part. He was excited to have the tooth fairy visit yet another night in one week. He even gave her some presents besides the tooth... a pencil... toy duck... and small orange purse that he confiscated from me. Cute. Hopefully she won't wake him up digging all that stuff out from under his pillow :)

Gap Tooth Guy

After much ado, Quinn lost his first top front tooth. He is most definitely not a fan of the whole loose tooth bit. The thought of wiggling a loose tooth makes him clam up tight, but after a little coaxing and a little bit of tied up floss, out it came. Now he has a great spitting gap going. His other top tooth is loose too, but I think that it will be awhile before that one goes on to the tooth fairy.

Quinn, Ella and Kaleigh (Avery was at hockey with dad, and the other girls wanted to stay warm) braved the "big hill" over at the lake by Em and Bobs house, on their new sled from Santa. I really was not looking forward to it, as last year when we went, they didn't want to carry their sleds back up the hill, so I ended up having to go down and get them time after time.

This year they were able to manage it on their own though, and we had a good time, that is until Quinn had to go to the bathroom. I told him we would have to go (even though he wanted to tell me he could just go behind the tree... yeah that works well with snowpants...). We had been out there for about forty-five minutes anyway. They wanted to come back after, but since you have to drive to get there, and they were all wet I said no. Of course this through them into fits, and I got blamed for it being their most "horrible day ever!" Yeah, lots of fun! At least while it lasted. :)

Celebrating History

Quinn really was excited to have his picture taken with President Obama, he just had his cheesy smile on yesterday!

Yesterday we spent Martin Luther King Jr. day celebrating with everyone else at the Henry Ford Museum. It was Target Family Day so admission was free. We had a great time, the kids got MLK journals to write in, and they had fun drawing pictures of the things they liked seeing. Of course Quinns favorites were the race cars, trucks, and trains. Avery liked the carriages and the bikes and made a special friend in Orville Wright. Kaleighs favorite was the wienermobile.

The special treat for me was getting to sit on the bus that Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on. We waited in line for a few minutes to do it, but it was definitely worth it, and since the kids were learning about all of those things at school they really understood it. After the bus the kids got to make a paper copy of the bus, and while they were doing that I attended the presentation they were doing. The kids and Scott joined me when they were finished and Quinn participated in the freedom march, and Avery onstage for "We Shall Overcome".

It was really an awesome way to spend the first of a couple historic days.

Art, Carnivals, Hockey and Sleds

Ok so the new year has brought blog slacking for me. I realize I am behind. We have done some fun stuff too, I just have to get the energy to get the pictures out of my camera and into the computer.
Last week, we made a trip to the DIA with the kids (who had never been). They did pretty well, and it was a fun afternoon.
The kids were back to school last week, which was VERY nice! Quinn had his make-up holiday party on Wednesday, Avery had a little bout with her asthma early in the week, and Kaleigh had a few errand running trips with Scott and I. Overall kind of a slow week.
Friday night was the Winter Carnival at Quinn's school, and being a PTA board member (and over achiever volunteer), I was at his school pretty much from 9am to 9pm- setting up, working, and helping clean up the event. It was ALOT of fun, there were 20 different carnival games, snacks etc. and even a win a live goldfish game. My friend Laurie runs the whole show each year, and she is amazing. She and Aunt Mary could definitely run conferences on how to put on great school events.
Saturday we spent indoors, for the most part due to the snow, until the evening when we ventured out for dinner at church, and Scott and Quinns trip to the Michigan hockey game. It was Quinn's turn to go and he got to ride on the brand new Zamboni in between the 1st and 2nd periods. I got a call from him (the girls and I had a girls night in) around 9, and he was so excited to tell me that he got to ride... and that and he got to eat 2 ice cream sandwiches. Tonight was Avery's turn to venture out to hockey with Dad. The kids really like to hang out with Dad (who wouldn't when you get treats all to yourself), and they can't wait until it is their turn to go.
While Avery and Scott were at the hockey game, Quinn, Kaleigh, Ella and I headed out to the sledding hill for some downhill fun. Quinn tried out the new sled they got from Santa and man does it go! He thought the bump at the bottom of the hill was especially fun as it sent him airborne about 3 feet... fun for him, when I hit the bump on my trip down... not so fun! I am definitely getting too old for bumps that take you in the air on plastic sleds. The trip was fun while it lasted, until I told them it was time to go, and then it was according to Quinn, "the most horrible day ever!" that I made them leave, even though he was the one that had to go to the bathroom. Someone stayed up too late last night and ate one too many ice cream sandwiches I think.
Ok, this has turned into a long post.... sorry.... tomorrow maybe I'll get those pictures out of the camera.

2009!

Well here we are in 2009...

After church last night we headed to our friends Marcy and Johns house to celebrate with Em, and Bob, Lisa and Shawn and all the kids. We had a great time, played some games and rang in the new year. This picture is just a few minutes after the ball dropped, Quinn took it (we tryed to get the timer to work but it didn't want to cooperate, so Quinn did the honors).

As you can see Emily and Bob didn't make it to midnight, and Kaleigh won the funniest way to ring in the new year prize. Right as the clock turned 12:00, she says, "I have to pee!" (when you gotta go you gotta go) and door wide open she was drinking her sparkling grape juice and saying happy new year to the rest of us! Fitting I think as she spent Christmas eve with a UTI.

It was a nice evening and the kids slept in this morning!
